Le Calabash Cooking School is located on the river Creuse in the heart of the Indre et Loire region. The setting is a beautiful French hamlet at the edge of the local forest. The region is renowned for its goat’s cheese and wine. The Indre et Loire is France’s “bread basket”!

Your home for the week is a former manor converted to a stunning relais hotel. The property has been carefully restored with exquisite taste and attention to detail, ensuring all modern comforts. There is a lovely dining room and a cozy lounge with a large fireplace, a perfect spot for an aperitif in the evenings.

The hotel is located on the banks of a river in a picturesque, pastoral village, an ideal setting for a culinary experience!

Alison and Sidney are award winning chefs with several years of international experience. They have cooked for several Heads of State and Royalty including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince William, Richard Attenbourgh, and Mick Jagger. Their cooking philosophy is “cooking without boundaries” and they take traditional French cooking and infuse exotic flavors and traditions from around the world to create a thrilling “cooking adventure”!

Excursions

The Excursions

  • Explore the countryside by bicycle, take a walk or a canoe ride along the river
  • Full day trip to Chateau Chenonceau and lunch at the famous Orangerie restaurant. The Chenonceau was once a royal residence and its rich collections have been preserved down the ages by women such as Catherine de Medici and Madame Dupin. Complete this lovely day by visiting Fabrice and Laurent Maillet in Vouvray, a renowned wine producer, for a wine tasting and cellar tour
  • Visit the market in Loches, where you can buy fresh ingredients for your hands-on cooking class. Loches is known for its medieval citadel which is surrounded b 1.5 miles of ancient walls
  • Enjoy a picnic near the river in Angles sur Anglin, with its paved streets and winding alleys, one of the prettiest villages in France
